Threats for heavy rain, flooding and severe storms expanding over the state
Atmospheric river of tropical moisture flowing into New Mexico expands chances for heavy rainfall, flooding, and severe thunderstorms. Rain and thunderstorm impacts shift into central New Mexico tonight into Friday.
Eastern New Mexico rain chances will go up Friday into the weekend. Localized flooding is possible. If flooding threatens, get to higher ground immediately. Always avoid arroyos, ditches, and water-covered roads. Severe thunderstorms will also threaten western New Mexico Wednesday and Thursday, bringing the chance of damaging wind, hail, and an isolated tornado.
