Employees find body
Two employees arrived for work shortly before 8 a.m. on Oct. 20, court documents stated.
Once inside, the employees noticed a spilled coffee cup on the hallway floor, a large hole in the drywall next to the cup, and a large pool of blood leading into their boss’s office.
One of the employees looked through the window of the office and saw their colleague lying on the ground. Believing she was dead, the two employees left the office and called 911.
When officers arrived, they found the woman’s body. She has been identified as Mary Kelly, 57, of West Hanover Township.
Officials said Kelly appeared to have suffered stab wounds to the head and neck.
Evidence found on site
According to court papers, police said they found a trail of bloody footprints that led from the crime scene to an adjacent warehouse.
“The footprints led into the warehouse and next to a large trash can. Inside the can were two blood-covered kitchen-type knives and what appeared to be hair,” the affidavit said.
A security employee at the business shared video with police showing Kelly arriving for work and disarming the alarm system. A couple of minutes later, a red SUV pulled in.
Police said she did not appear to notice the SUV.
A couple of minutes later, the man who was in the SUV disappeared from camera view under the roof leading to the front entrance.
Police said no one else entered the building.
The man left about 10 minutes later.
Complaints about work hours
Police said one employee told them another employee, Clifton Emerson Sr., who had worked there for about four years, drove a vehicle like the one seen in the video. That same worker said Emerson had been “complaining about a lack of hours and not having enough money to pay his rent in the past week.”
Police said Kelly and Emerson were the only ones in the building until she was discovered dead.
Based on the information and evidence found at the scene, charges were filed against Emerson and a request for an arrest warrant was made.
An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 22.
