Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Nick Saban will take their traveling college football show to Salt Lake City next weekend instead of Albuquerque.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —
ESPN College GameDay will not make a trip to Albuquerque, at least not next week.
The popular college football show will head to Salt Lake City next weekend, when Utah puts the nation’s longest winning streak on the line against Houston.
There had been hope that ESPN College GameDay would come to Albuquerque to preview the Lobos’ matchup with North Dakota State. Both teams are 6-1 on the year and among the top teams in the Mountain West. New Mexico is currently the only unbeaten team in the conference.
Mayor Tim Keller had lobbied for ESPN College GameDay to come to the Duke City, offering a balloon ride to the cast. He says he’s disappointed, but is holding out hope that the Lobos will continue to turn heads.
“At the end of the day it was a longshot,” said Keller. “They’ve only come to one non-Power 5 school ever. We almost had it, and we’ll just keep fighting. As long as the Lobos keep winning on the field, we’ve got a chance. And so my offer for a balloon ride still stands.”
Lobos fans can hold out hope that ESPN College GameDay will consider the November 14 home game with UNLV as a possibility if UNM continues to stack up the wins.
