Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is out indefinitely after reports said a superficial blood clot was discovered in his leg last Saturday.

Hurts was initially cleared by a medical team to play against the Rams in London on Sunday. However, a follow-up ultrasound conducted 72 hours later revealed that the clot had moved. The new location of the clot hasn’t been disclosed.

Dr. Barry Ramo, a cardiologist and health expert, explained to KOAT the potential dangers of the condition.

“It can migrate and go up into the lungs and cause what’s called a pulmonary embolism, and that can cause multiple clots in the lungs, it can cause respiratory failure, and in some cases death,” Ramo said.

Ramo also noted that groups at higher risk of developing blood clots include people who are obese, have sedentary lifestyles, or have pre-existing heart and lung conditions or diabetes.

If you believe you may be at risk of developing a blood clot, it is important to contact a physician.
