Nearly 9,000 San Juan County households were under a boil water advisory on Friday after E. coli was detected in a water system.
The advisory was required for some 8,683 users of the Lower Valley Water Users Association Water System, according to the Environmental Department. The advisory didn’t extend to any of the other surrounding water systems or communities.
Users in the county are advised to boil water for three minutes before drinking, making coffee or other hot beverages, making ice, cooking, washing fruits and vegetables, using the water to feed a baby, brushing teeth or providing drinking water for pets.
The water system primarily serves users in Kirtland, Fruitland, and Waterflow, according to a company website.
