Santa Fe police detained a 15-year-old suspect on Friday in connection with a drive-by shooting that occurred late Thursday night.
He’ll be held at the San Juan County Juvenile Detention Center to undergo processing.
On October 15, 2026, at approximately 9:42 p.m., Santa Fe Police Officers from Patrol Team B and Patrol Team C responded to the 1200 block of Senda Del Valle after a ShotSpotter detected gunfire. As police officers were responding moments later, the Santa Fe Regional Communications Center received multiple calls reporting gunshots in the same area.
Responding officers arrived at the scene and located a residence and a vehicle that had been struck multiple times by gunfire. No injuries were reported as a result of the shooting.
Officers canvassed the surrounding area for surveillance and witnesses and were able to identify a red GMC truck leaving the area immediately after the incident.
Soon after, a driver contacted officers and reported his vehicle being struck in a hit-and-run crash in proximity to the scene. The driver reported that a red truck had struck his vehicle and then left the scene.
The Crime Scene Unit was called to the scene to process it for evidence. Numerous expended shell casings and discharged projectiles were located, collected into evidence and will be submitted to the forensic laboratory to determine if the firearms used in this crime have been used in other crimes.
Detectives located the red truck in the Cottonwood Village Mobile Home Community near Agua Fria Street and South Meadows Road. The truck had been abandoned, and the vehicle registration plate had been removed. Surveillance video was also obtained showing the vehicle driver being picked up by another vehicle at approximately 9:54 p.m. on Thursday night following the crime.
The suspect faces charges related to conspiring to commit aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and firing at or from a vehicle and at an occupied home. The suspect is also accused of tampering with evidence, leaving the scene of a crash and failing to report a crash involving more than $500 in property damage.
This investigation is still active, and more details will be released when more information becomes available.
