BOISE, Idaho —
At 62 years old, Michelle Galloway continues to show her strength.
The Idahoan reclaimed a world record in her age division at the 2026 IMWA World Masters Weightlifting Championships in Athens, Greece.
“So this year in Greece, about three weeks ago, I was able to put 55 kilograms back on the bar, and I broke the world record, and so now, I have all three world records,” she said.
Galloway holds three world records and started weightlifting in her 50s.
She told Idaho News 6 that she spent seven years bedridden with an undiagnosed illness.
After she recovered, Galloway signed up for a kettlebell class, where she began training consistently.
“I have had to get mental toughness and [perform] in front of the crowd, which I never thought I would do,” Galloway said. “Those are skills that I had to gain, along with just the skills in weightlifting and strength.”
According to KTVB, Galloway broke her own records at the 2026 Las Vegas competition in the clean and jerk and in total weight lifted, but she lost the snatch record to an Australian competitor.
She is a Meridian YMCA instructor and trains at an Olympic weightlifting gym in Boise, Idaho.
