A heat dome is developing over New Mexico and temperatures are expected to rise at or above 100 degrees in many areas this weekend. The New Mexico Department of Health reports 453 people have visited health facilities across the state due to heat-related emergencies since April 1 of this year. Health officials advise everyone to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses by taking the following steps:Stay cool inside. Keep window shades drawn during the day to help keep the heat out. When outside, stay in shaded areas when possible.Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing. Schedule outdoor activities for cooler times of the day. Never leave children or pets in the car.
