Man crashes into Phoenix police car, taken into custody

Officials said police were able to track and detain the man.

PHOENIX — A man drove into a patrol car early Sunday morning near Cave Creek Road and Grovers Avenue, police said.

Phoenix police patrol officers were driving north on Cave Creek Road near Grover Avenue in north Phoenix around 3 a.m. Sunday when a man drove into the oncoming lane of a marked patrol car.

Police said the officer tried to avoid the collision but was rammed into the side of the vehicle by the suspect. The suspect continued driving south and left the scene.

Police were able to track the man down and take him into custody. The man, later identified as Jon Heuvel, 54, was jailed and faces DUI charges, according to police.
