Jon Rahm says he has no issue with Brooks Koepka after ‘child’ barb

MONTESELLO, GEDONIA, Italy — Jon Rahm said he has no problem with Brooks Koepka after he accused him of acting like a child during the Ryder Cup on Friday. But Rahm admitted to taking out his frustration by hitting a wooden board before the game. Tee No. 18.

Rahm and partner Nikolai Hoggard scored a crucial half-point for Europe in Friday’s four-goal tie with Koepka and Scottie Scheffler on the 18th, There were three holes left and I was two holes behind.

Rahm made an eagle from 63 feet on No. 16 and then tied the score with a 35-foot putt on No. 18. Koepka was visibly frustrated, saying in a television interview: “I mean, I wanted to hit a board like Jon Rahm and pout. But you know, that’s what it is. Act like a kid. But we’re adults.” We move on. “

Lahm gave Europe a 9.5 – 2.5 lead in the morning foursomes on Saturday when he and Tyrell Hatton beat Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele 2-1, Lahm was then asked for comment.

“I’m not going to stand here and say I’m the perfect role model on the golf course,” Rahm said. “I play and compete the way I think I need to, and yeah, I think he mentioned that. I wasn’t happy that I left a 10-footer on the 17th that probably would have tied the game, and then walked up to the tee shot stage, I let out some frustration by hitting the board on the side and I kept going and never stopped and that was it. If Brooks thinks it’s childish, that’s what it is. He’s entitled to think what he thinks, I mean Yeah, I don’t know what else to say.”

Rahm said he was staying away from social media, but his friends sent him Koepka’s criticisms and made him aware of the comments.

“I’m very happy with who I am and what I do,” Rahm said. “I’ve been worse on a golf course like this. That doesn’t even begin to show how low Jon’s anger level is on the golf course.

“As far as I’m concerned, I’m pretty happy with myself and in that moment I needed to do that to get some momentum off and make the holes I wanted to make. Obviously, it worked out, two holes, great shots, putts A little bit lucky on the pole. I need to do what I need to do in this situation. Whether it’s right or wrong, naive or naive, I don’t know, but that’s what I need now.”

When asked if there was an issue between Koepka and him, Rahm responded: “To be fair, I’ve never had any issue with Brooks. I don’t know now, but up until yesterday afternoon, I thought we had one A good relationship.” A good relationship, you know.

“The mutual respect has always been there. He’s always been an unbelievable player and he’s always done amazing things.

“That’s probably true. Look, if I saw someone make a putt like I did on 18, I wouldn’t be the happiest person. Obviously there’s a little bit of luck involved. But this is competition and I think we were there two years ago. I saw a lot of the opposite when I was at Whistling Straits.

“But, yeah, I think it’s probably because it was a long day and look what happened on our last three holes. I don’t really know what else to say. It was a good game. I think They shot 10 under and Nikolai and I had a great day. It was really, really fun to be a part of that and experience that.”
