Toys ‘R’ Us plans launch of 24 physical stores

The expansion is a return to form for the once-ubiquitous brand, which has fallen out of favor in recent years since a 2017 bankruptcy shuttered most stores.

WASHINGTON — Do you miss wandering the aisles of Toys R Us? Well, you’re in luck, because the company is returning to brick-and-mortar stores starting this winter.

VIP Global, Companies that own toy store brandsannounced on Friday that they hope to re-expand Toys R Us’ footprint into the real world by 2024.

The company said they are working with Go! Retail Group will start selling in about 24 flagship stores. Most will open in 2024. WHP said they plan to open stores in more airports, cruise lines and brick-and-mortar stores across the country.

But anyone flying into the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport during the holidays will get a chance to see what the new Toys R Us stores will look like for the first time. The first new flagship store is being designed for the airport; they plan to open in November.

The expansion is a return to form for the once-ubiquitous brand, which has fallen out of favor in recent years.

Toys R Us filed for bankruptcy in 2017, was eventually liquidated and sold to WHP in 2021. Since then, the new parent company has been active in launching new initiatives for the toy brand.

In 2021, they opened a flagship store in New Jersey. Following the opening of its first flagship store, Toys “R” Us partnered with Macy’s to open stores in the department store’s 452 locations.

“The Toys R Us brand is growing rapidly and our expansion into air, land and sea is a testament to the strength of the brand,” Yehuda Shmidman, chairman and CEO of WHP Global, said in a statement.
