Snubs and Surprises – Billboard

Jelly Roll, little-known a year ago, was the top winner of the inaugural People’s Choice Country Awards, taking home six awards from eight nominations. It’s just one surprise for the show, which airs live on NBC and Peacock on Thursday (September 28). Little Big City hosts the show, which takes place at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.

Jelly Roll won the 2023 Male Artist Award, the 2023 New Artist Award, the 2023 Song Award for “Need a Favor” and the 2023 Collaboration Song Award for “Save Me” with Lainey Wilson. Jelly Roll won two song awards as artist and co-writer, both of which doubled, giving him six awards in four categories.

Morgan Wallen received 11 nominations, more than anyone else, and won three awards, including the top award, People’s Artist of 2023. Wilson was nominated for seven awards and won three awards.

The show also presented two honorable mentions. Wynonna Judd received the Country Champion Award presented by Brothers Osborne. Toby Keith received the Country Icon Award from fellow Oklahoman Blake Shelton.

Little Big Town, Judd, Keith and Sheldon are also on the show, as well as Carly Pearce, Dan Shay, Hardy, Jelly Roll, Kane Brown and Kelsey Ballerini Performance.

Voting opens on August 16, when nominations are announced, and ends on August 25.

Here are the top snubs and surprises from the 2023 People’s Choice Country Awards, which are billed as “an awards show for the people, by the people.”
