Marlins-Mets suspended after delay of 3 hours, 17 minutes

NEW YORK — Back-to-back hits by Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Yuri Gurriel in the ninth inning gave Miami a 2-1 lead over the New York Mets, but the game ended at 12 p.m. Suspended due to rain at 58 minutes. The delay was 3 hours and 17 minutes.

Miami had moved into the third and final National League wild-card spot when the Chicago Cubs lost to Atlanta earlier Thursday.

Miami (82-76) holds a half-game lead over the Cubs (82-77), who are within three games of NL Central champion Milwaukee. The Marlins play three games in Pittsburgh and must return to New York on Monday to finish off the Mets if they need to seal a playoff spot.

The Miami Heat won the season series 4-2 and faced the Cubs in the finals.

If a playoff spot needs to be determined, play will resume at the time of the pause. If this game was not required to decide a playoff spot, the score would revert to a 1-0 Mets win with a score of 7.02 (b) (4) (A).
