Human Milk Repository of New Mexico seeks donors to help infants in need

Albuquerque, New Mexico (KRQE) – Human Milk Repository of New Mexico (HMRNM) is the first and only human milk bank association in the state in North America. Accredited human milk banks are looking for donors to provide breast milk to babies in need across the state.

The New Mexico Human Milk Bank tests all donors before approval.Once approved, donors can Make a donation appointment at the Albuquerque or Las Cruces facilities. The milk is processed in accordance with clinical guidelines and FDA regulations and then shipped to or picked up by recipient families.

In 2022, the company’s first full year, HMRNM provided nearly 50,000 ounces of donated breast milk to families. As of August 2023, the company has supplied 35,000 ounces and continues to grow.

How much can you donate?

Approved donors can donate a minimum of 100 ounces (over time).

How long does it take to become a donor?

According to the HMRNM website, most donors become eligible to donate within a few days to a week. If completed during working days (Monday to Friday), it can be completed within 48 hours at the earliest.
