Jets give ‘Hard Knocks’ early material as fights break out at practice

The New York Jets have yet to wear pads in practice, but that hasn’t stopped players from getting excited.

Three brawls broke out at Jets practice Saturday According to several reporters present. Some fan videos also featured multiple scuffles throughout the day.

Defensive ends Jermaine Johnson and Michael Clemons were reportedly to blame for fights with multiple unnamed offensive linemen. Clemons even threw a punch at tight end Jeremy Ruckert at one point, According to a report on Saturday’s incident.

Despite the intensity of Saturday’s practice, Jets head coach Robert Saleh was calm as he discussed what happened.

“Yes, it’s hot,” Saleh told reporters, laughing. “It’s been a good competitive session. It’s nice to see the offense come back, but we have another day tomorrow.”

Fights are not uncommon during NFL training camp practices. In fact, a number of fights made headlines last summer, especially at the combine.

When asked about the fights in training camp last summer, Saleh seemed to agree, but only under certain conditions.

“One rule is: No punching or kicking,” Saleh told reporters at the time.

The Jets’ training camp was viewed as one of the most entertaining in the league this summer. Of course, for many fans, this was the first time seeing Aaron Rodgers from the Green Gang. But it will also be documented on HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” as the hit show chose the Jets to feature in this year’s edition.

Even better news for Jets fans is that Rodgers has hit it off with one of the Jets’ top young players. Sauce Gardner followed through on a promise he made in April when he said he and his jeweler prepared a gift for Rodgers.

Corner gave the quarterback a No. 8 diamond necklace, the number Rodgers now wears with the Jets.

New York is the first team to hit the practice field this summer as they play the Hall of Fame game on Aug. 3.
