16-year-old charged in murder of homeless Albuquerque man

Date:

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A 16-year-old is facing charges for the shooting death of a homeless man in northeast Albuquerque on July 2.

The teen and his friends were in a stolen car when they harassed, chased, and shot and killed Frank Howard near Menaul and Eubank, according to Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman.

The teen, who was not named by the DA, is from Santa Fe and was on probation for a separate crime when the murder happened. The DA also said the teen has had 12 referrals to the juvenile justice system.

Police also believe the same group of teens is connected to an attack on a pregnant woman and her family at a Burger King in Santa Fe, the same day Howard was killed, according to the DA.

The group involved in the assault at Burger King was reportedly comprised of two males and three female juveniles aged 12 to 16 years old
