14-year-old accused of killing his father in Glendale

DPS troopers detained the teenager after a high-speed chase near Kingman.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — A 14-year-old accused of killing his father was apprehended Tuesday after attempting to evade state troopers by speeding at 130 mph through Kingman, records show.

Joshua L. Goldman, 39, was shot to death at a residence near 67th and Olive avenues. Police suspect the victim’s teenage son shot him during a family fight.

Court records show the victim’s other child reported getting into an argument with their father shortly before the 14-year-old intervened by firing a gun.

By the time officers arrived at the scene, they found Goldman’s other child trying to help the wounded father and the 14-year-old son had left the residence. The father was taken to the hospital and died from his injuries.

Investigators reported finding up to seven spent shell casings at the residence.

At about 7 p.m., state troopers located a vehicle the suspect was traveling in and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. A high-speed pursuit ensued that ended in troopers deploying a grappler device to immobilize the car near Kingman. The suspect and another individual were taken into custody.

During an interview with investigators, the 14-year-old alleged that his father tried pushing him before getting into a fight with his sibling. The suspect alleged his father grabbed onto a gun he had holstered to his waist, prompting the son to pull out his own firearm.

The son claimed he didn’t intend to shoot his father but was trying to get him “to stop.” After the shooting, the suspect disclosed he was attempting to drive to Nevada.

Police noted in records that it appeared the father’s gun was fully inserted into the holster and there was no indication it had been removed or discharged, records show.

The 14-year-old could be facing a charge of second-degree murder.
